What are the benefits of a diverse and inclusive PLN in social media sharing that understands where you are coming from with messaging that impacts the community?

A diverse and inclusive PLN in social media sharing can expand the horizon of audience. People who are using this type of PLN will have a totally new concept of the entire world they are living. There is only a few people who have been to many places all around the world, which means most people do have a narrow and subjective attitude when treating this world. Fortunately PLN has saved these people by connecting people from different regions and cultures, which shows them the differences and diversity of the world instead of places they are living in and people they are talking to in daily lives. The creation of PLN makes people become open and international, which has also improved the connection between opposite levels or status such as rich and poor, high and low.

The origin of people will become a tag or specialty of PLN in social media sharing. Not only it can stands for the region or country people are living in, but also represent the cultural background and the whole race of it behind it. When people are using PLN in social media sharing, it is also necessary to respect and believe their own culture. People will not respect a person who does not even love his own culture and country.

How would you create a PLN prior to engaging in a social media campaign on a topic of your choice?

Firstly I would do a research on the topic of my choice so that I can get important information of the topic, which would be a fast way for me to engage in the social media in the future.

However, doing researches is definitely not enough to totally understand a social media campaign. It is necessary to talk to people who are already in this type of social media campaign. Those people can provide more useful information than doing researches because it is real-time. Furthermore, I can also learn rules when talking with those people. Otherwise I would easily break the rules or make mistakes in the social media campaign, which is not what I expect to see.

Then it is important to learn the solid content of the social media campaign and create my own style. Learning the solid content can make me become a solid member of the campaigh instead of a rookie and it is also a good way to make socialize. Creating my own style is also part of engaging the soical media campaign, which can also be treated roles. I might have some styles and roles on the Internet, but I need to create a new one in order to engage in the social medai campaign.

How Has Your Thinking About Inclusion And PLN Evolved?

Social media has extened my view of the world. It can show me plenty of places where I have never been and people who I have never met. From those places and people, I can learn that there are different culture and races of people around the world. Social media has really created a convenient way for people to know and learn diversed knowledge. Now people have so many options to know and learn that they must focus on specific areas or they will get lost in the ocean of information. In my perspective, social media caught people’s curiosity and it plays a role as a door without any lock, which means social media is not the main reason that people are addicted and lost. Curiosity is the main reason and it will grow fast, which will create more desire and motivation.

Social media has played an important role as a social script or discipline among the entire Internet. It makes people behave more careful when they are giving opinions, comments or speeches because of the diversity. People must consider multiple aspects especially the different culture and customs. They might get in trouble if they do not make an adequate consideration because their speech might be offensive to others. However, there is also inclusion and tolerance because people know well that there will be misunderstanding and ignorance from different culture and races. Social media are making people become multicultural and easier to accept and understand different values and views from different regions.

What digital platforms are students currently using to develop their professional network?

Students are currently using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram to develop their professional network. There are also some other digital platforms which are used by a few students who are looking for jobs and careers. Tools such as Office and Zoom are also digital platforms which help students develop their professional network.

What could the student consider in expanding their professional learning network?

When students are expanding their professional learning network, they could consider the safety of their personal information because as students expand deeper and further in their professional learning network, their personal information and profile are becoming more detailed and accurate, which has a risk of privacy leaking.

How does data privacy and security limit and/or promote a PLN?

On the one hand, data privacy and security make it more difficult for students to find and view online. It will take students more time and energy to search what they want or need. On the other hand, data privacy and security increase the safety of the online environment. Students could be less worried about their personal information and profile being hacked by others.

In your network, how can you create a digital identity/ reputation?

Firstly I will post my basic personal information such as date of birth, sex, nationality and so on. It is like the real world when I am going to sign up for an account. Personal information should be real and valid otherwise I will be attracted and recommended to wrong groups of people. Creating a digital identity is a process of building a new individual online. Pepole can build a different type of individual from the one they play in the real world but they need to remember their build.

Consider how an employer would respond if you applied for a job with them and they assessed your social media presence via your digital identity.

It depends on what type of social media presence it is and what type of company it is, which means whether my social media presence can create values for them. If they do not need my social medai presence then they will not consider my digital achievement.

What is a digital identity?

A digital identity is how people play roles when they are online. Internet has become a virtual world and everyone is playing his roles. There is little relationship between digital identity and real-world identity. People can create a digital identity which is similar to who they are in the real world. They can also create a digital identity which is totally different from the ones they are playing in the real world.

How do personal versus professional approaches to digital identity affect social media use?

Personal approaches have limited affect because personal digital identity do not have too many followers and influence. They can become famous and siginificant digitial identity but it needs plenty of time and money. Compared to professional approaches, they have adequate funds and influence and they have a follower base in the real-world. It is quiet simple and easy for professional digital identity to develop online. What’s more is they can easily create waves and blizzard on the Internet using their influence and fame.

How do digital identities converge in networked publics – what are the impacts and/or benefits?

Openess is the key point for digital identities to converge in networked publics. Although there are rules and social scripts in the real world, people can behave open-minded and tolerant when they are playing roles online because information is passing fast and broadly on the Internet. There will be more cultural conflict and disagreement, which are obstacles for digital indentity to converge in networked publics. Being open-minded can make people understand and learn different cultures and habbits in different regions where they have never been and seen.

What does it mean to network using social media?

People could think of themselves as networked individuals. People can live and learn in the network society. This intimate connection between people and technology has had a profound effect. It has changed how we seek out, access, use and store information, how we communicate, study and work together and how we create and share ideas. The way we learn has changed. Learning is not just something we do in a lecture theatre or a classroom with a tutor. It’s something we do together through our social networks, through video sharing sites, gaming networks, forums, communities and other online spaces and, of course, in person. We are at the centre of an empowering online and face-to-face network. This network is made of people, devices, information and services, which we can shape and use in order to learn at times, in places and in ways we choose and control.

How are we motivated to participate in networked publics?

This three–layered model relates the attitude of a professional learner towards networking to the actual networking skills she displays in day–to–day practice. Attitudes and skills are different types of qualities: an attitude is something of the mind, a perspective with which a person views the world; a skill is a practical, developable ability to do something. Because of this difference, it is not possible to directly link the two layers. To do so, requires two important intermediary steps in our view. The first one is the translation of this attitude in the mind to a deliberate intention. When professionals have developed an attitude of approaching their professional life and learning in a networked way, they build, maintain and activate their contacts intentionally.

The second step is to translate that intention into actions. The professional’s intention manifests itself through the activity of networking, where the professional engages in practices enabling and supporting networking. These include activating strong ties , activating weak ties , building or maintaining weak and very weak ties . The activity of networking depends on the complex skill of being able to make associations between the contact’s qualities and one’s own . This complex skill is in turn influenced by the different factors identified earlier in this article at the different phases of networking. As such, the attitude trickles down as it were to affect the professional’s actions and the required skills.

What are the risks & rewards of public communications?

In a networked age, a reasonable amount of control is not enough; control has to be absolute control. One slip-up or data leakage and whatever was once protected can easily enter into a networked public where it may enter broader databases, be aggregated with other data, and circulate. In a networked world, data is more persistent, replicable, searchable, and scalable than ever before. Trying to achieve perfect control will only lead to frustration.

If teenagers’ efforts to achieve social privacy keep their parents in the dark, they don’t stop algorithmic interpretation—and misinterpretation—of their interactions. They are still subject to advertising and personalization based on what they post and they may be rejected by colleges and have limited job opportunities based on the interpretations of machines or people. But their efforts to achieve privacy without relying on the control of information are still an important signal. Not only have the next generation not given up on privacy, but they’re actually trying to find ways to achieve privacy in networked publics.
